Yes, indeed, Mission: Buy Stock in Maalox is a go! I want to thank everyone who has helped out in setting this up and supporting me in this campaign. I also want to list a number of the ways that people can help support the campaign, including a number of ways that aren’t necessarily obvious.
The first is simply to share the Kickstarter link. This costs nothing to do, and although it isn’t a cute kitten or a positive daily mantra, your social networks will appreciate that it is not a request to fix a fence on your virtual farm. The more people who have a chance to consider the project, the more people who might become interested. Let people know that a three-chapter sample is available for them to read, which should give them an indication of whether they want to read more.
The second is, obviously, to consider backing the project yourself. Realize that many of these donation tiers are not designed around charity. For the most part, I’m soliciting for fully paid pre-orders of books and eBooks. I’m offering author visits that, in various parts of the country, represent a discount over what I would normally charge. Remember that you pay NOTHING unless the campaign reaches its goal, at which time you will be assured of getting the product you’re after.
A third possibility that people might not know about is taking advantage of various exclusive works at my children’s author site. Buy buying existing products from me directly, you help me combat some of the costs associated with the campaign itself. I’ve bought a little web advertising through AdWords and Facebook Ads to help my cause, purchased some art work (such as the campaign image you see plastered all over all my efforts), and the sad truth is that in order to keep the campaign goal as low as I could, I am ignoring that fact that I will owe fees and taxes (and Minnesota taxes at that) that will eat about 20% of whatever the Kickstarter makes. If I were to make enough in sales or donations during the campaign, I can initiate steps that would normally have to wait until after the campaign, such as working on layout, proofing, and cover art.
And the fourth is to share the Kickstarter link. Did I already do that one? Well, I need to do it again, because as the campaign gets down to the wire, people who see it now might think that they have plenty of time to think it over. People on the fence or who have put it in the back of their mind will need to be reminded.
Thank you again for all the well wishes and support. And the Pepto Bismol or flat Sierra Mist. Cuz I’ll be using lots.
